What is Lane Keep Assist?

2021 Honda Accord

So, what is lane keep assist? Lane Keeping Assist System(LKAS) is a feature of Honda Sensing and helps keep you in your lane if you start to drift on your Athens commute. It works in conjunction with other Honda Sensing systems to make your drive around Winder safer. Let’s take a closer look at the features of Lane Keep Assist and how it can help you stay safe in your new Honda vehicle.

Lane Keep Assist: How Does it Work?

The Honda Lane Keeping Assist System uses various sensors in your vehicle to scan the road ahead, such as street markings and signs. When you start to drift from your lane, you will receive alerts from the system. These will appear in the multi-information display and the steering wheel will even begin to vibrate to help alert you. Furthermore, the Honda Sensing system can help steer the vehicle back into the lane if you don’t take immediate action.

Can You Turn Lane Keep Assist Off on Your Honda?

You can certainly turn off this system and even the rest of the Honda Sensing suite of features if you’d like. This is how to disable these features:

  • You should push the MAIN button on the steering wheel. After a few seconds, you’ll see LKAS appear on the multi-information display
  • Press LKAS
  • Lane outlines will be visible on the display ( the dotted lines will turn solid when the system is ready to be disabled)
  • Press the MAIN or LKAS button to disable the system

What is Honda Sensing?

Honda Sensing is a suite of driver assist features that are either offered standard or as an option on many new Honda models, such as the Civic and Accord sedans. Honda Sensing also includes these features in addition to LKAS:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Honda LaneWatch
  • Blind Spot Information System
  • Cross-Traffic Monitor

The Lane Keeping Assist System is offered standard on the Honda Sensing suite of features. When compared to competitors such as the Toyota Safety Sense, Toyota implements Lane Departure Alert, but does not have the ability to maintain your lane until you take action.
